Two Assessment Strategies
Sent from my Literacy Specialist: Here are two possible activities to try with tests. They help reinforce the material. One can be done before the test and one after the test.
1. Chris' test:
The teacher creates a test similar to one he/she plans to give. A fictional student named Chris takes the test (maybe an SSL could this?). The teacher distributes copies of Chris’ test to the students. Students work in pairs to go through the test, item for item, and determine whether Chris answered the questions correctly. Students then work together, discuss content, and review content as a formative check of their understanding. Students also could justify or explain toChris why an answer is correct. The teacher would then review with students and administer a similar test the next day. (Rutherford, 2008) |
2. Extra Inning:
Collect tests at the end of the period. Announce that students will have an extra inning tomorrow...10 minutes at the beginning of the period. Students are encouraged to go home and study whatever they could not remember or figure out during the test. The next day, as promised, they have 10 minutes to revisit their test. The teacher may wish to ask students to use a different color ink or pencil for tracking purposes. Should they earn full credit? That's up to you, but why not? |
